Nebraska AgrAbility

Do You Know Someone in Ag Struggling with a Health Condition or Injury?

A life-changing opportunity awaits any Nebraska farmer or rancher who suffers a disabling condition or chronic health state that hinders their ability to work.  Since 1995, Nebraska Extension and Easterseals Nebraska have partnered on this USDA grant-funded program called Nebraska AgrAbility.

Nebraska AgrAbility focuses on empowering individuals to maintain their chosen profession in production agriculture so that they and their families continue to succeed in rural America. “Success” may be defined in many ways, including:

  • Gainful employment in production agriculture or a related occupation
  • Access to appropriate adaptive farm equipment needed for work and daily living activities
  • Education related to the treatment and rehabilitation of disabling conditions
  • Support for family caregivers of AgrAbility clients

The program addresses a wide variety of disabling conditions in agriculture, including but not limited to arthritis, spinal cord injuries/paralysis or back impairments, amputations, head injuries, visual or hearing impairments, and respiratory impairments.

Nebraska AgrAbility team members work with community professionals to provide the following supports:

  • Modify farm and ranch tasks and increase farmstead accessibility
  • Adapt current equipment
  • Provide injury prevention education
  • Provide financial guidance and identify funding sources for adaptive farm equipment
  • Coordinate community services

If you know anyone who may benefit from the free services of Nebraska AgrAbility, please let them know about this opportunity!
