Western Nebraska Community College’s Shintaro Inoue, of Yamaguchi, Japan, was named the Region IX Player of the Week for the week ending April 7.

Inoue, the Cougar shortstop,  had a historic week for the Cougars.  Over the weekend Inoue broke two career records for WNCC, career home runs with 25 and career runs scored with 96.  For the weekend WNCC went 4-0 and Shintaro paced the offence hitting .750 (9-12) with three doubles, two home runs 12 RBI, he also scored nine times and walked five times.   Congrats to Shintaro on his accomplishments.

The Region IX Pitcher of the Week went to Trinidad’s Oliver Mabee, who had a complete game victory against Otero where he allowed just one earned run while giving up tw hits, striking out nine, and walking two.

The WNCC baseball team, who is 11-1 in Empire Conference play, will have a 4-game series with Otero College at Cleveland Field this weekend. The top two teams in the conference get a Region IX tournament first-round bye in the 6-team regional tournament that begins in May.
