Scotts Bluff County officials are working with the Nebraska Association of County Officials on a new website for the county.

The idea had been a subject of discussion by commissioners going back more than a year, and now the revamp is close to becoming reality.

Treasurer Heather Hauschild recently told the board they’ve been working with NACO’s Multi-County Information and Programming Services, or MIPS, on the upgrade. ” They kind of went through and rebuilt all of the pages that we have for our website. They really are doing the website for us, because we’re the test pilot for their new website design,” said Hauschild. “With the new website, we’ll each be able to update our own pages. Right now, we have to go through Bytes; everything Kelly (Sides) wants to put up, a meeting link or something like that, she has to go through Bytes, and we’ll be able to do that on our own.”

Since they’re the ‘guinea pig’ for the MIPS website upgrade process, the redesign comes at essentially no cost, something Commissioner Charlie Knapper considered big plus, saying “When we talked about doing a new website about two years ago, 18 months ago, we were talking $100,000.”

“Yep, at least,” replied Hauschild, “at minimum. So, we’ve saved ourselves a whole lot.”

Goals of the revamp are increased user-friendliness, more and better-organized information and compatibility for use by those with disabilities.

The newly upgraded site is expected to make its public debut in a couple months
