Pios throw combined no-hitter in opening night split at North Platte

After having their season opener at North Platte rained out on Tuesday the Western Nebraska Pioneers and Plainsmen split a pair of games on Wednesday at Bill Wood Field.

In the season opener it was Ryan Sleeman (West Valley JC) and Nick Soudah (Skyline JC) combining to throw a seven inning combined no-hitter. Sleeman worked the first five innings and struck out 11 and then Soudah closed out the final two innings with four strikeouts as the Pioneers won it 6-1.

Alex Zerfass (Gonzaga), Jace Jeremiah (Skyline JC), Tommy Eisenstat (Gonzaga), and Jake Curtis (KU) combined to go 8-13 at the plate with four RBI in the win.

Game two went to North Platte by the final of 9-7 with the Plainsmen having big innings in the fourth and sixth frames, scoring four runs in both innings.

The Pioneers had a seventh inning rally fall short after scoring three times.

Sam Holling (Des Moines Area CC) and Jace Essig (Emporia State) each drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

Friday the Pioneers will open up a seven game homestand playing the first of three against the Nebraska Prospects starting at 6:35.
