(UPDATE: The Pioneers game has been rained out and they’ll now play a doubleheader at North Platte tomorrow starting at 4 pm MT. Pregame on KNEB 960/100.3 FM will start at 3:45.)

As the school year finishes up it’s time to officially welcome in the summer months and there is no better way to do that than with a lot of local baseball.

That’s the case tonight on the Rural Radio Network-Scottsbluff. A lot of local baseball.

The Western Nebraska Pioneers are set to open their season, their first in the start up Independence League, with the first of three games on the road at North Platte and we’ll have coverage with Jake Sirkus on KNEB 960/100.3 FM starting at 5:20 with pregame and first pitch at 5:35.

The Pioneers held their first and only practice of the season yesterday at Oregon Trail Park Stadium under the direction of second year manager Anthony Garcia.

After the three games in North Platte the Pioneers will return home for their opening games of the season at the Stadium as they take on the Nebraska Prospects Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Also tonight it’s opening night for the Gering Legion baseball program as the juniors/seniors are on the road for games at Sidney. We’ll carry the Gering Platte Valley Companies Seniors vs. Sidney tonight with Jeff Kelley on KMOR 93.3 FM and KMORfm.com starting at approximately 7 pm-7:15 pm with first pitch about 15 minutes after the pregam show starts.

Gering’s program under new direction this year as Travis Gable has replaced Rick Kinnaman as the head coach.

Gering will play their home opener tomorrow against Gering at Oregon Trail Park and Jeff will have that one also on KMOR starting at about 7 to 7:15.

And a third local broadcast will be also be on the airwaves tonight with the WESTCO Zephyrs hosting Torrington in a doubleheader at Cleveland Field. Game one is slated for first pitch at 6 pm and we’ll have both on 106.9 The Trail and KHYYfm.com starting with pregame at 5:45.

The Z’s enter tonight with a 3-5 record after winning their first three games and then dropping their last five. They had their game against Chadron postponed last Friday due to bad weather.

The Express juniors played last night and got beat by Wheatland 11-10 as they slipped to 3-3 on the season.
