Nebraska Farm Bureau hosts annual meeting in person for 2021

The Nebraska Farm Bureau concluded it’s annual meeting earlier this week in Kearney. According to Nebraska Farm Bureau more than 400 members were attendance throughout the week.

The annual meeting was back in person this year after being virtual due to the pandemic last year. Kicking off the annual meeting was a gubernatorial forum moderated by Rural Radio Network’s own Susan Littlefield. The forum was well received by members and was essentially standing room only.

The rest of the week hosted keynote speakers like Matt Rush who is co-author the book “Stress Free You”. Rush, who is a farmer and rancher himself, spoke on causes and management of stress. You can hear more from Rush and his keynote topics at the annual meeting here:

In the breakout sessions a variety of topics were covered included carbon markets. Albeit the conversation on carbon markets were started over a decade ago, there is still a lot to understand and figure out regarding carbon markets. American Farm Bureau economist Shelby Swain hosted the break out session and shares her thoughts on the carbon markets here:

Nebraska Farm Bureau’s YF&R members competed in the Discussion meet finals at the annual meeting. Lance Atwater took away the top honors and will represent Nebraska at the National Farm Bureau Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in January. Brady Revels was awarded the Excellence in Agriculture award for his continuing work and support of Nebraska agriculture. His award also punches his ticked to the National meeting in Atlanta. Bridging the gap of ag literacy is a major goal of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation. During the annual meeting, the Growers Gala helped raise funds for more educational projects in 2022. Executive Director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation is Meghan Schafer and she discusses all of the ways the foundation works to inform others about agriculture.

The last major piece of business for the Nebraska Farm Bureau annual meeting was the delegate session where Nebraska Farm Bureau voted on it’s policy book for 2022. A lot of important topics were discussed and voted on during the session. President of Nebraska Farm Bureau Mark McHargue commented that key issues included cyber security and rural child care.
