Activities of the Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon are underway, with the Expo in full swing Friday afternoon and evening at the Gering Civic Center.

Race Coordinator and WNCC Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Reisig says as of the start of the Expo, more than 560 runners were registered in the full- and half-marathons, 5K, and Half-Marathon Relay, with the 5K completely full.

“We’ve got a great group of people coming, so excited about the weather, (and) the course is looking really fantastic,” says Reisig. “It was so dry, and that rain a couple nights ago just settled that dust down. We’ve got some of our crew out there working on it, just moving things out today, and it’s gonna be perfect tomorrow.”

The full and half marathons get underway at 7:30 Saturday morning, with the half-marathon relay and 5K starting half an hour later.

5K runners are expected to start showing up at the Regional West Medical Center finish line at Five Rocks Amphitheater around 8:15 a.m., half-marathoners arriving about 15 minutes later, with relay finishers beginning around 9 a.m., and full marathon participants starting to cross the line around 10 a.m.

The awards ceremony takes place around noon, with an after-party that follows at Flyover Brewing Company in Scottsbluff from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
