The City of Scottsbluff has signed off a $150,000 LB840 funding request for a new alfalfa mill company.

Ryan Walker and Levi Umble or the owners of the Wyobraska Alfalfa Mill, located on Sunflower Oil Road in Mitchell at an old Hergert Milling Location.

Umble told the Scottsbluff City Council Monday night that they’ll use the money to complete the mill and for operation of the milling equipment.

“Ryan and I are both alfalfa growers and alfalfa producers and we really see a need in our area to create a better market for alfalfa,” said Umble. “So one thing is we need to get the mill going again, which will require a lot of new equipment. But then we also see the demand for mostly getting our product out of this region. And by making into pellets, we can actually ship it to a lot more places in the country and different markets for it.”

After about five minutes of discussion, the Scottsbluff City Council unanimously voted to approve the Economic Development Assistance Agreement.
