June 10th, 2021 | Chris Cottrell

Both senior legion teams in town were in action on Wednesday playing away from home with Gering Platte Valley Companies earning a road win at Chadron while the WESTCO Zephyrs split their doubleheader at North Platte.

In our game on the RRN-Scottsbluff it was Gering all over Chadron by the final of 9-1. Blake Greene tossed a complete game for the win, he struck out six, allowed just the one run on six hits with no walks.

At the plate for Gering it was Brady Radzymski continuing to swing a hot bat, the standout catcher collected three hits and drove in three runs. Radzymski is hitting .500 this season (19-38).

Gering is now 12-1 to start the season and they’ll have a big road doubleheader today at Casper with first pitch at 4 pm.

For the B&C Steel JR’s it was a high scoring affair as they get the win over Chadron 16-15.

WESTCO gets one at NP

WESTCO head coach Jeremiah Luber said the consensus among coaches in that Class A Area grouping of teams was that North Platte might have the best team this summer. With that said the Z’s will surely take a doubleheader road split at North Platte from last night.

The win came in game one as Hunter McCollum started and struck out eight and Jace Heimerman drove in four runs in a 6-5 win. The winner pitcher was Hunter Garcia, who tossed 1.1 IP to close out the game. Heimerman’s fourth RBI came in the top of the seventh for the game winning RBI.

Game two went to North Platte 9-0. The Z’s had just two hits in the game two loss while Porter Robbins took the loss on the mound.

The Zephyrs will host Bridgeport on Friday night at 6 pm and we’ll have coverage on KNEB.tv and 106.9 The Trail starting at 5:45.

In JR’s action last night for the Express they were beaten twice by North Platte, the finals were 10-1 and 8-5.
