It was iffy at times on Tuesday, especially in the morning, but in the end they got in both rounds today and completed the Class B Girls State Golf Championships at the Scotts Bluff Country Club with Elkhorn North stealing the show this year as they win the team title and also finish in the first two spots on the individual leaderboard.
Elkhorn North sophomore, Julia Karmazin, finished as the state champ with a two day score of 147 (+3) while her sister Emily, a senior, finished in second place at 153 (+9).
The next three finishers were all from here in town. Anna Kelley of Scottsbluff, the defending state champ, along with Gering’s Emily Krzyzanowski, each finished with matching 154’s (+10) in a tie for third place. Scottsbluff’s Nielli Heinhold was solo fourth place at +15 (159).
In that team race it was Elkhorn North finishing with the title with a combined score of 677 (+101) while Scottsbluff finished in second place at 696 (+120).
Scottsbluff bounced back from a tough opening day to shoot the best team score on the course on Tuesday, going from 362 to shooting 334. Head coach Brock Ehler said from yesterday to today it was a complete 180.
“Good attitudes, good golf, and if you’re being negative or making excuses you can count on things going downhill. That was the total difference of how we attacked the golf course and the psyche of how we played. It was almost like reverse psychology and it worked out (today).”
Gering finished in 9th place for the tournament. After Krzyzanowski’s top five finish the next best scorer for Gering was Madison Mumm who tied for 26th.

Class C – Columbus
The two headliners for Class C teams from the region heading into round two were Kimball’s Payton Wise along with Mitchell.
Wise was great in her final round of golf as prep athlete. She shot 77, which was seven shots better than her opening round and the second best round on the course today. Wise finished in solo third place at 161 (+17). She finished four shots off the pace.
In the team standings it was Mitchell starting the day in fourth place overall but they dropped to 9th in the final standings shooting a combined score of 817. Broken Bow was the Class team champs with a two day score of 719.
