Scottsbluff’s “Grow our own Teacher” Program

The Scottsbluff Schools Foundation has added four new scholarships for 2023
As part of the Scottsbluff Schools Foundation “Grow Our Own Teacher” program, the Para-to-Teacher Scholarship has been established to increase the number of qualified teachers available to our district in a new and creative way.
Public schools are in need of teachers and it’s becoming more challenging to recruit and retain quality educators through traditional academic programs. One group often overlooked are paraprofessionals. This group has a lot going for them. They are already involved in the teaching process in classrooms. They have experience supporting students with challenging behaviors, and they are often long-time community members with deep roots. What they don’t usually have is a bachelor’s degree. The Para-to-Teacher Scholarship is a way to cultivate and grow the potential pool of certificated teachers available in our district and support paraprofessionals as they grow professionally. Any SBPS paraprofessional or classified staff member is eligible to apply.
Along with the Para-to-Teacher Scholarship, three new scholarships are available for graduating seniors. The SHS Diesel Tech Scholarship, established and funded by instructors of the Scottsbluff High School Diesel Tech program, is available for students in the Skills and Technical Services Career Academy who plan on attending a school majoring in Diesel, Truck and Heavy Equipment Technology.
The Woodshed Culinary Arts Scholarship has been established in honor of Curly Behnke, longtime owner of “The Woodshed” restaurant in Scottsbluff. This scholarship is available to seniors pursuing a post-secondary education in Culinary Arts.
The Rick Cantril Scholarship is available to students in any career academy and has been established to honor a long time Scottsbluff High School counselor.
Information and applications for these and other scholarships available through the Scottsbluff Schools Foundation can be found at sbpsfoundation.com/scholarships
The application deadline is March 31, 2023.
It is the purpose of the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation to support and enrich programs and educational opportunities for the students of Scottsbluff Public Schools. We rely on financial support from our community, parents, and alumni to expand our efforts and continue to enhance education at SBPS.
