York girls win district title

For the third straight year, the York Dukes clinched a state tournament bid in front of the home crowd at the Duke Dome taking down Blair 51-36.

The game started off slow for the Dukes with Blair scoring their only four points of the quarter before York got anything going, once they got the lead they did not look back taking a 9-4 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Dukes continue the hot shooting from the first, sprinting out to a massive lead on the heels of Kiersten Portwine who finished with 12 points on four threes. Blair fought back late in the quarter, riding a six point run into the halftime break only down by three with the Dukes taking a 21-18 lead into the locker room.

The crowd at the Duke Dome saw a barrage of three’s from York in the second half as the Dukes hit three quick three’s to sprint the lead back to 12 quick and they did not look back from there, grinding out a very long second half to pull off the 51-36 win over Blair and advance to 14th state tournament and third straight,

The Dukes move to 20-3 on the season and will now play in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
