A 4-H member from York County recently earned third place in the Intermediate State 4-H Public Speaking Contest with her public service announcement about opportunities for all in the organization.

Harley Hedrick, who will be a fifth-grader in the fall, is heavily involved in 4-H. She said she does communication posters, home decor projects, presentations, floral arrangements, gardening and more.

This year, she wrote and produced her own public service announcement, which qualified for the state competition and earned the state bronze medal.

“I’m super proud of myself because I’m only going to go into fifth grade, and I was third in the entire state out of a lot of kids who competed,” she said.

Hedrick’s PSA includes information about the 4-H mission, programs and opportunities.

She said her favorite part about 4-H is competing in county contests and challenging herself.

“I am a very competitive person when it comes to these challenges, so I really like to participate in them and I try my best.”
