CENTRAL CITY – For the first time in nearly 30 years, the York Bolton Post 19 American Legion seniors won the area title after a close battle with the tournament hosts Central City.
The Kings beat Central City in the final game 7-6. Isaac Stark went 2-4 at the plate with three runs scored and one RBI. Noah Jones, Marshall McCarthy and Kennan Dirks each added two hits.
The win capped off a 5-0 week for York at the Area tournament. The Kings beat Central City in the first game on Friday 10-0, then took down St. Paul on Saturday 19-11 moving the Kings to the third round. On Sunday they escaped past Sutton 4-2 to move them to Monday when they beat Twin River 13-5.
Tuesday’s title win over Central City was the first one the York team has won since 1991.
York will play in the state tournament beginning this Saturday in Pierce.
