Smith Selected to Lead Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee
Congressman Adrian Smith (R – NE 3rd District)
January 19th, 2022 | Rep. Smith's office

Washington, D.C. Today Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) was selected to serve as the Ranking Republican Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over all trade measures, including trade agreements, tariffs, and trade enforcement activities.

Smith said:

“President Biden spent his first year in office intentionally ignoring trade opportunities and failing to stand up to China. He allowed the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill to lapse when our supply chains were already disrupted so congressional Democrats could attempt to leverage it to fulfill their partisan agenda. Inflation is rampant, store shelves are empty, and the Chinese Communist Party continues to cheat at home and force its will around the globe.

“Nebraskans understand the importance of producing quality products at home and exporting them to customers around the world. I am excited by the opportunities this new role provides, and will use it to demand the administration reengage around the world so we can demonstrate the importance of economic freedom, intellectual property protection, and the rule of law for American families and as a bulwark against China’s economic imperialism.”

Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady said:

“In his new role as Republican Leader of the Subcommittee on Trade, I know Rep. Adrian Smith will champion selling American around the world, and fight for greater opportunities for workers, families, and small business owners across the country. Our new Ways and Means roster is already hard at work on policies that will get America’s economy back on the right track.”

Smith, a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee, previously chaired the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support (Human Resources) and was Ranking Republican on the Select Committee on Select Revenue Measures.
