One person was pronounced deceased at the scene of an airplane crash just before noon on Monday about an 1/8th of a mile southwest of the McCook Ben Nelson Airport property. The McCook City Manager says the second occupant of the plane was transported to Community Hospital in McCook with injuries.

Nate Schneider did not release any names but, says the crash site has been secured and will be maintained until investigators from the appropriate federal agencies arrive.

Besides City of McCook personnel on scene other agencies responding include McCook Police Department, McCook Fire and Rescue, McCook Public Works, Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Red Willow Western, Nebraska Public Power District, Black Hills Energy and The Red Cross. No additional information was being released by the City of McCook at this time.

Based on the plane’s registration number, it is a 1993 Piper PA 46-350P with six seats and one engine. It is registered to a limited liability company in Shreveport, LA. It had made a 2 hour 43 minute flight from Shreveport, LA to Ben Nelson Regional Airport in McCook on Friday afternoon(October 27, 20023). The plane’s destination Monday was not available.
