Northwest edges York
October 10th, 2021 | Chase Thompson

The Grand Island Northwest Vikings got senior quarterback Sam Hartman back from injury and
they needed the dual threat prowess, spreading their way to a 24-17 win over the York Dukes.

The Dukes got the opening kickoff in front of a senior night crowd at East Hill Stadium and went
three and out before the Vikings marched down the field scoring on their first possession of the
game with Hartman pounding his way into the end zone to make it 7-0 Vikings early.

The Dukes turned it up on the offensive side of the ball, running a spread look offense getting a
field goal to make it 3-7 Vikings still in the lead. A stop on the defensive side of the ball before
Marley Jensen rumbled into the end zone throwing a few Viking tacklers off to make it 10-7.

The Vikings were just too much to overcome the rest of the game, using the edge to get into
the end zone four more times. The Dukes could only manage a fade route to Garrett Ivey on a
fourth and long in the fourth quarter to bring it back to 17-24. With the Dukes needing a
touchdown they rolled with Marley Jensen but an untimely penalty ruined all hope. With York
having to punt on a 4 th and 34 with just under two minutes left. Hartman on a second and 6
rolled across the sticks putting it away for GINW 24-17.

Marley Jensen rushed for 134 yards on 24 carries to lead the Dukes and Sam Hartman passed
for 135 and rushed for 89 yards to lead the Vikings.

Next up for York is a showdown at 6-1 Seward, that game can be heard on KOOL radio,
pregame at 645 with kickoff at 7pm.
