North Shuts Down South in Shrine Bowl

Kearney-A quick start and a strong defensive effort led the North to 10-3 win over the South in the 63rd annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl on Saturday night. Blair’s Dexter Larsen scored from one yard out on the opening drive of the game to give the North a 7-0 lead. The North would add a 31 yard field goal late in the third quarter from Ord’s Kellen Meyer to go up 10-0. Omaha Westside Quarterback Cole Payton had the play of the night, his 75 yard run set up a 29 yard field goal from Trenton Brehm of Papillion South early in the fourth to cut it to 10-3 but that’s as close as the South would get. The North’s defense limited the South to just 218 yards on 48 plays. Bennington’s Kale Bird was named the Offensive Player of the game as he was 16-26 through the air for 133 yards. Rylan Aguallo of Mitchell was the leading rusher for the North with 11 carries for 40 yards. Millard North’s Jimmy Quaintance who had four tackles and a key interception in the first half was named the Defensive Player of the game.
