Jorgensen named 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the year

Lexington-Longtime KRVN Radio sports director Jayson Jorgensen is the 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the year. The annual award is given out by the National Sports Media Association. Jorgensen was named a finalist for the award for the first time in December. Members of the organization from the state of Nebraska vote on the winner. Jorgensen has been the sports director at KRVN in Lexington since 1997, in that time has won over 40 awards from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association and the Associated Press.

For the last seven seasons, he has been the radio voice of the University of Nebraska Kearney football, volleyball and women’s and men’s basketball programs on 93.1 KRVN “The River” and 106.9 FM in Kearney. Jorgensen was also the radio voice for the Concordia University football broadcasts on Max Country in York for two years.

In addition to his duties with the Lopers, Jorgensen still calls several high school football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and legion baseball games for the Rural Radio Association. Jorgensen will receive his award at the annual National Sports Media Association Convention in late June in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Tom Shatel of the Omaha World Herald and Steve Sipple, with Husker Online of Lincoln tied for the Sportswriter of the year.
