Coach Holliday Passes Away

The highest scorer in the history of Nebraska high school basketball passed away over the weekend. Bill Holliday, who scored an incredible 2,748 points during a three-year basketball career at Wilsonville high school died after a long battle with health complications at the age of 80.

As a coach, Holliday led Aurora High School to the 1976 State Class B basketball championship. He was the head coach of the Huskies from 1971 to 1983. He also had coaching stops at Stamford, Thedford, Hebron and Loomis. On the court, his career scoring mark of 2,748 points still stands today. He scored an amazing 890 points his senior season. He averaged 27.9 points per game his senior year, 31.8 as a junior, 33.4 as a sophomore. Wilsonville played in the state tournament two times with Holliday leading the way. After high school Holliday played at McCook Community College and at Kearney State. He also went on to become a highly respected volleyball official.
