YORK – The York Dukes (1-0) took down the Hastings Tigers (0-1) in the season opener for both teams. It was a back-and-forth match for most of the game. At one point, York trailed 2-1 in sets, but came back to force the deciding fifth set. The Dukes ended up with the win 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 15-9).
Dukes senior Masa Schiereman finished the contest with 24 kills.
Rylyn Cast for York also picked up 8 kills, Ava Ziemba added 5.
Hastings was led by Katelynn Shaw who finished the contest with 12 kills.
York’s next opponent is at Platteview on Tuesday, August 31, at 5p.m.
