SEWARD – In an exciting finish to the boys Central Conference basketball tournament, the York Dukes took home the hardware with an exciting 57-48 overtime win over the Seward Bluejays Saturday night in Seward. It was mostly a back and forth battle with the teams trading momentum several times. A long three-pointer by Seward’s Drew Covalt with 1.9 seconds in regulation, gave Seward a 44-42 lead, and an apparent victory. But York executed a flawless play ending in a tying basket by Garrett Ivey, and the Dukes went on to outscore Seward 13-4 in overtime to take a 57-48 win. Ryan Seevers led York (11-8) with 21 points, while Leighton Limback had 21 for Seward (8-9).

The girls tournament championship game saw the favored Dukes go down to defeat at the hands of Grand Island Northwest, 47-34. The Vikings (8-9) controlled the game from the outset, never trailing in the contest. They were up 20-14 at the half and came out inspired after intermission, increasing their lead to 36-23 after three quarters, and coasted to the conference tourney championship. Reba Mader and Riley Rice each had 13 points for the Vikings, while York (15-4) got 11 from Destiny Shepherd.
