Cross County girls win C2-5 title

A packed house at Cross County Community Schools witnessed a battle for a spot in the Class C-2 state tournament between the Superior Wildcats and Cross County Cougars go in the favor of the Cougars 52-42.

The first few minutes of the game was a back and forth affair as the Wildcats and Cougars traded buckets before Cross County gained control and never relented. The Cougars had a run late in the first quarter to take a 17-10 lead after the first stanza.


The second quarter was much the same with the Cougars maintaining a three to 10 point lead throughout the rest of the first half. Shyanne Anderson had seven of her team high 16 points to lead the Cougars into the halftime break up 28-22.


The second half was played in a stalemate with the Cougars never getting a lead of more than 10 but the Wildcats did make it interesting late before the Cougars closed things out at the free throw line advancing to their 2nd straight state tournament 52-42. The Cougars (23-3) will now play on Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament with opponent and time TBA. The Wildcats end their season at 17-9.
