CRC Volleyball first day recap, Semifinals set for Monday

YORK – On Saturday, the 2021 CRC Volleyball tournament began with 13 teams playing in nine first and second round games at York High School.

Monday’s matches will be at the York Auditorium and will feature McCool Junction vs. Dorchester at 4pm and Osceola vs Hampton at 5pm. Both of those will be best-of-three matches.

The two Monday semifinals will be Exeter-Milligan vs. Cross County at 6pm, and BDS vs. Meridian at 7:30pm in best-of-five matches. All of Monday’s games will be live on 104.9 Max Country and streamed on Striv TV (striv.tv/crc).

Here’s how the action went on Saturday:

High Plains vs. McCool Junction:

The High Plains Storm beat the McCool Junction Mustangs in round one of the CRC volleyball tournament at York High School. High Plains won the first set 25-12, and dominated in the second set winning 25-8. Gordona Howell had a great day serving with 3 aces for the storm. High Plains moved on to face the Meridian Mustangs later that day. 

Meridian vs. Dorchester

The Meridian Mustangs beat the Dorchester Longhorns in round one of the CRC volleyball tournament at York High School. Meridian won the first set 25-10, and stayed close but Meridian pulled away to win 25-12. Senior Ally Kort had a great day with 8 kills in the match. Meridian went on and faced the High Plains Storm later that day.

Shelby-Rising City vs Hampton

The Shelby-Rising City Huskies beat Hampton Hawks in round one of the CRC volleyball tournament at York High School. Hampton won the first set 25-20, S-RC had to battle to win the last two sets 25-21 and 25-23 to win in three sets. Zoey Walker had a day at the net with 5 blocks for the Huskies. Shelby-Rising City moved on to play BDS, the top seed in the tournament.

Giltner vs East Butler

The East Butler Tigers got off to a quick start winning a back and forth first set 25-21.
The second set was a worst-case scenario with the Tigers not able to get anything going losing
the second set 13-25. The Hornets ended up being led in kills by Macie Antle. In the third set the tone was announced for the next hour of volleyball as the Hornets and the Tigers played a highly entertaining third set. The lead never got to more than three with East Butler scoring the last three points to win the third set 25-23 to defeat Giltner 2-1 (25-21, 13-25, 25-25). The Hornets next play on Tuesday at 5 at the York Auditorium vs (Insert whoever
lost to BDS). The Tigers moved on to play Cross County later in the afternoon.

Osceola vs Nebraska Lutheran
This match was extremely entertaining for the full house inside the auxiliary gym. Osceola got off to
a quick start, defeating the Knights in a back and forth first set 25-23, but that was all the Bulldogs would get in the first round of the CRC. The second set saw the power that Lilly Otte and Marissa Endorf brought to the Knights, defeating the Bulldogs 25-22 in a thrilling second set. Otte led the match nearing 10 kills in the three-set match. The third set saw the Knights completely dominate the Bulldogs, getting up more than 10 points quickly before dismantling the Bulldogs 25-13 to complete the reverse sweep, winning the match 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-13) to move into a second-round match with Exeter Milligan. Osceola dropped into a match vs (insert loser of Shelby Rising City/Hampton) on Monday at 5.

East Butler vs Cross County
The Cross County Cougars dominated the Tigers getting out to a quick 25-8 first set win. The Cougars were led by serving specialist Shyanne Anderson. The sophomore came into the match with 56 aces and added seven more to her tally in the sweep of the Tigers. The second set saw the Tigers be more competitive but the Cougars showed why they are the defending champions of the CRC finishing off the sweep of the Tigers (25-8, 25-20). The Cougars move onto the semifinals vs Exeter Milligan who defeated Nebraska Lutheran in the next match on Monday at 6. The Tigers next play Nebraska Lutheran who fell to Exeter Milligan at 5 on Tuesday.

The match was won by the Timberwolves who took care of the Knights easily in the first set, winning it 25-12. The second set was not much different with the Timberwolves taking the set 25-10 to sweep the Knights 25-12, 25-10, to move to the semifinals vs Cross County. The Timberwolves were led in kills by Cameran Jansky with nine. The Knights fall to a match vs East Butler on Tuesday at 5.

Meridian vs. High Plains

The Meridian Mustangs swept the High Plains Storm in the second round of the CRC Volleyball Tournament in York Saturday. The Mustangs won set one 25-15, and clinched the victory with a 25-18 win in set two. The 5th seeded Mustangs advance to the tourney semifinals where they will take on the top seed BDS at the York Auditorium Monday at 7:30.

BDS vs. Shelby-Rising City

BDS swept Shelby/Rising City at the CRC Tournament at York High School Saturday. The Lady Eagles took set number one 25-12, and the second set 25-11. Still unbeaten in conference play this fall, the top-seeded Lady Eagles will take on the tourney’s 5th seed Meridian in the semifinals at the York Auditorium Monday at 7:30.
