CRC Semifinals set for Thursday

YORK – Four boys and four girls teams are left for the 2022 Crossroads Conference Basketball Tournament held at the York City Auditorium.

Girls: (3) BDS 45, (5) McCool Junction 21

In girls quarterfinal action at the Crossroads Conference action, it was all BDS, as they easily defeated the McCool Junction Mustangs 45-21. The Eagles raced out to a 12-0 advantage after one quarter, and extended their lead to 22-5 by halftime. McCool picked up the pace a bit in the second half, but never threatened BDS, as they fell to 11-5 on the year, and were eliminated from the tournament. BDS, now 15-3, advances to Thursday’s 3 pm semifinal against two-time defending tourney champion, Cross County. Jess Hudson led all scorers with 13 points for the Eagles, while McKenna Yates led McCool with 8 points.

Boys: (5) Nebraska Lutheran 49, (4) Shelby-Rising City 43.

In boys action, Nebraska Lutheran punched a ticket to the Thursday 4:30pm semifinal against Osceola, with a 49-43 win over Shelby-Rising City. The game was close throughout, with neither team ever holding more than an eight point lead. Nebraska Lutheran seemed to cling to the lead most of the game, with the Huskies not able to get over the hump due to 22 turnovers. Lutheran (11-3) led 10-9 after a quarter, 27-25 at the half, and 41-38 after three periods, and held on for the 6-point win. Trey Richert led the Knights with 18 points, while the Huskies (8-8) were paced by Gabe Dutton-Mofford’s 15 points.   

Girls: (7) Exeter-Milligan 39, (2) Osceola 29
The final game of the quarterfinals of the 2022 CRC girls bracket featured sixth seeded Exeter-Milligan upsetting third seeded Osceola 39-29. The Timberwolves got off to a quick start taking a 10-6 lead after the first. The Timberwolves defense was relentless in the second quarter, holding the Bulldogs to one score in the quarter, while putting 10 up to take a 20-8 lead into the break. The Timberwolves were able to fend off a charge in the third quarter, while allowing the Bulldogs to cut into the lead by only four in the second half to win 39-29. Next up for Exeter Milligan is a date with second seeded Meridian in the semifinals on Thursday.

Boys: (3) BDS 34, (6) McCool Junction 31
The final game of the quarterfinal round of the CRC went the way of third seeded BDS, holding off sixth seeded McCool Junction 34-31. The Eagles got off to a hot and gritty start, allowing the Mustangs to be able to muster only 8 points in the first half while the Eagles put up 19 to take a 19-8 lead into the break. The second half became a memorable one for fans in attendance as McCool Junction slowly cut into the BDS lead, outscoring them by two in the third and six in the fourth while having a chance to tie at the final buzzer but the Eagle defense did not allow a
good look with BDS pulling off the win. Next up for BDS is a date on Thursday Night with second seeded Cross County.
