Omaha, Neb. — The body of a man found Monday in an area north of Omaha has been identified as a missing Kearney man according to a media release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office identified the body as that of 56 year old Patrick Weber who was reported missing when he failed to return from a trip to Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 27.

The Sheriff’s Office has determined his body was found near 66th and Rainwood Road, lying about 15 feet from the road. The body was discovered by a person walking his dog in the area. Deputies are investigating the death as a homicide. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Kearney Police Department and the Council Bluffs Police Department in the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office reports it’s the second homicide investigation within 7 months involving bodies located near Rainwood Road. The media release says there is no evidence to suggest the two cases are related.

Additionally, Deputies were called to 216th and Rainwood Road last week regarding a skeletonized body part found in a field. This case has not been ruled as a homicide. Experts are examining the remains to suggest an approximate year and cause of death, furthermore they are testing DNA for any possible identification.
