STACHE BOOK CLUB: The Starlet’s Secret to a Sensational Afterlife

A Starlet’s Secret to a Sensational Afterlife by Kendall Kulper

After “The Devil Takes You Home” I needed a book that would lift my spirits and I found the perfect book. “A Starlet’s Secret to a Sensational Afterlife” by Kendall Kulper is a phenomenal rom-com that is sweet, funny and has a surprising amount of action and intrigue. I really didn’t expect much from this book. It had good reviews on GoodReads but it was rather unknown to me.

I’m so glad I chose to listen to this audiobook. The two narrators that play Henrietta and Declan are just wonderful and do a fantastic job putting you firmly in 1930’s Hollywood. As the two characters begin to grow closer, the chemistry is out of this world. It’s a classic romance trope done incredibly well.

The part of this book that really took me by surprise was the mystery/supernatural element. This book’s main story is about how a studio could be covering up the deaths of actresses who were used and abused by male producers, directors and actors. When we meet the ghosts of the actresses, it is haunting and as the story ramps up into the final confrontation, there are truly moments of horror and awe that I did not expect from my little Hollywood rom-com.

I applaud Kendall Kulper for putting together such a strong book. I enjoyed every second of the book even if some of the classic romantic tropes were a bit heavy handed. I highly recommend “A Starlet’s Secret to a Sensational Afterlife.”
