Mitchell Buys Old City Hall at Double Price of 2021 Sale Price

April 24th, 2024

The City of Mitchell has purchased the Old City Hall building for twice as much as they sold it just three years ago.

A local couple purchased the building for $25,000 in late 2021, but the city later realized that under the contract the buyers had first right to buy the fire hall if it were to go up for sale.

The Mitchell City Council discussed the matter earlier this year, and Mayor Paul Murrell stated that the fire department could use old City Hall for training once they reacquire.

After much discussion, Mayor Murrell, Sean Hopkins and Doug French voted in favor of purchasing the building back for $50,000, with councilmembers Stephen Lacy and Gary Ritterbush voting against the matter. County records show the sale was completed April 9th.
