The 40th Annual West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball match was held Saturday at WNCC’s Cougar Palace as the West team looked like one of the better all-star teams put together recently in the event as they beat the East team 3-1 (4-1 as they played all five sets).

After it was tied 8-8 in the first set the West took control running out to a 25-15 opening set win and then they dominated the second set 25-8.

The East showed some grit in the third set winning it 29-27 before the West closed it out in the fourth set 25-22 and then taking the fifth set for good measure, 15-7.

Bayard’s Danika Hassel led the West with 10 kills while Jaelynne Clarke of Alliance had 9, and Scottsbluff’s Ella Foote along with Sidney’s Karsyn Leeling both finished with seven kills.

Alex Gonzalez-Orozco of Gering was excellent defensively from the libero position.

The East team MVP trophy went to Mikah O’Neill of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. O’Neill finished with nine kills in the win.

Also with nine kills for the East was Audrey O’Hare from Gothenburg.
