Ag exports from Ukraine are down 46 percent this year, compared to 2021, according to Ukraine’s agriculture ministry. So far, Ukraine has exported 2.65 million metric tons of grain during the 2022-23 growing season. Grain exports for the 2021-22 season ending June 30 rose 8.5 percent to 48.5 million metric tons, driven by strong shipments before Russia invaded Ukraine, according to Reuters.
Since, exports have stalled because the Black Sea ports were closed off, driving fears of higher food prices and even shortages. However, those ports we unblocked last month, and Ukraine began exporting products. Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy reports the country exported 2.66 million metric tons of grains and oilseeds in July 2022, 22.7 percent more than June.
Exports of wheat increased more than three times in July to about 412,000 tons compared to 138,400 tons shipped for export in June. Ukraine could harvest up to 50 million metric tons of grain this year, compared to 86 million in 2021.
