A hefty prison sentence handed down this week in Kimball County following a spring traffic stop on Highway 30.

In May, 38-year-old David Baringer was pulled over by a trooper, and a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of fentanyl, meth, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, a digital scale and two machetes.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to amended charges of Attempted Distribution of an Exceptionally Hazardous Drug, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person.

On Tuesday, District Judge Derek Weimer sentenced Baringer to 8 to 10 years in prison on the drug charges and a consecutive sentence of 2 to 3 years on the weapons charge. In total, it will be a 10 to 13 year sentence, with 128 days credit for time already served.
