Registration closes soon for the local chapter of a multi-year music education program created by the Omaha Conservatory of Music.

String Sprouts provides violin lessons to children, with parent or guardian participation to help kids master their instrument and perhaps move on to others such as cello or bass.

Supporter Judy Wilson tells us kids ages 3 to 6 are eligible, and in our area, it won’t cost you a thing except time by a parent or guardian. “Our area here is qualified as underserved for these types of education. And so even though when, you get on the website is going to ask about income and things, nothing is charged for anyone here,” said Wilson. “It all is scholarshiped through, because we qualify for that. So all of it is free, and what you need to do is go on omaha.stringsprout.org.”

Ashley Hillman of Gering leads the local Sprouts, with lessons based out of either the Carpenter Center in Terrytown, or the Chuckwagon Church in Scottsbluff.

Online signups are due by Monday, Sept. 9
