Banner County Treasurer Monty Stoddard will be stepping down from his post.
County Attorney Mark Kovarik confirmed to KNEB News that Stoddard told the County Board of his decision during their Thursday meeting, but Kovarik said the resignation was not effective immediately.
Sources told KNEB News Stoddard read the text of a resignation letter during the open comments portion of the meeting, which prevented Commissioners from taking action on it.
Stoddard, County Assessor Bernice Huffman and a county employee were each convicted on misdemeanor charge of attempted public indecency for a late December 2021 tryst in the Banner County Courthouse building, with Stoddard and Huffman both receiving jail time, fines, probation and community service.
Kovarik says recognition of the resignation would not be official until the Board can take formal action and accept the letter, which may or may not be during their next regular meeting, depending on if it appears on that agenda.
KNEB News received no indication if Stoddard intended to remain on the November general election ticket as the Republican nominee for County Treasurer.
