What a week it was for the NCTA Curtis Aggies Shotgun Sports Team competing in the National Collegiate Shooting Sports Athletic Association Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Emily Miller of Norton, KS, earned the Highest Overall Women 1st, Double Skeet 1st, Double Trap 2nd, Super Sporting 1st, Skeet 2nd, and Sporting Clay 1st. Cody Flint of Herald, CA, placed 3rd in Trap, in a tie-breaker among six competitors shooting perfect scores.

Coach Alan Taylor shares, “I am extremely proud of our team, both in how well they competed and in the manner they comported themselves at NCSSAA Nationals. Emily Miller, winning high overall (HOA) women’s clay shooter in the Junior College division (Div. 5) is a major accomplishment. Emily dominated the women’s clay shooting. Emily being 1st or 2nd in every event but one shows how great a collegiate clay shooter she is. She will continue competing in college clay shooting as she graduates from NCTA and attends Fort Hays State University. They will be fortunate to have her.

Cody winning 3rd in trap is fantastic. Cody shot 100 straight, putting him in a 6-way tie. The mental focus it takes to control one’s nerves in a shoot-off cannot be overstated. To have Cody hold himself together to win 3rd in a national competition is outstanding.

All of our students did well, with Maddy Carr, Nolan Buss, and Gavin Tremblay all having personal bests while at nationals—a big thank you to the parents of our students and the support they give. I cannot wait for next season.”

Emily Miller shared her gratitude, saying, “What a wonderful week it was with some of my favorite people. This past week went far better than I could’ve ever imagined. Thank you to everyone for your support through this journey.”

Cody Flint adds his appreciation, “I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates, parents, and coach.”

The Aggie team and student body wish Emily Miller good luck as she will compete again next week at the ACUI National Competition in San Antonio, TX.

The team is hosting a creative fundraiser on April 1,2023, at the Curtis Gun Club and Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course in Curtis. A “Swing & Shoot” will combine nine holes of golf and 50 clays of trap in a team competition. Interested participants may email Alan Taylor at taylor@unl.edu or call 308-530-9889.

Notable is the creative social media documentary of the entire journey by social media manager Nathaly Dragoo, which you may follow on the Facebook page entitled “Curtis Aggies.”
