There was a first on Monday for the Western Nebraska Pioneers as the three pitchers combined to throw the first no-hitter ever for the team in franchise history.

Brody Fahnestock, Eli Stevens, and Carson Bevill combined for the milestone on the mound and then it took two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it with a walk-off RBI single from Luke Noack the difference.

Fahnestock threw four innings in his start allowing one run while striking out five and giving up no hits. Then Stevens came on for two no-hit innings, and then Bevill wrapped up the combined no-hitter by tossing three innings of spotless relief.

Even with the history being made on the mound the Pioneers trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning.

But three batters later the game was over. Kieran Gaffney led off with a triple then it was Jackson Yeager with a RBI double ahead of Noack, who finished off the Grays with the RBI single.

The Pioneers have now won the first four games on this current homestand.

They’ll get tonight off before opening a two game series with the Hays Larks on Wednesday night.
