The market report looks a touch different this week. I attended the National Association of Farm Broadcasting annual conference and convention in Kansas City. Part of the event includes “Trade Talk” where agriculture industry experts talk on a variety of subjects. This year American Sheep Industry and the American Lamb Board were represented in Trade Talk. The Podcast below is the conversation with both organizations.

The big topic of discussion is how demand for lamb surged following the pandemic, but has receded as the economy has opened back after the pandemic. Both the American Lamb Board and ASI have taken steps to encourage more demand in a variety of ways. ASI is currently waiting to see if lamb can be included in Section 32 commodity purchases by the US. Meanwhile the American Lamb board worked with a small restaurant chain to encourage them to add a double patty lamb burger to their menu.

Both organizations are also keeping a close eye on the upcoming farm bill that will start discussion in 2023. Mandatory price reporting and market access are key concerns for the organizations.

Tune in and hear the whole conversation here:
