Officials say a lit candle led to a fire that destroyed the home of a Lyman family Sunday evening.

Lyman Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Paul Detweiler says the department was called to an E Street trailer home on the east side of town around 5:30 p.m.

Detweiler tells KNEB News Morrill Volunteer Fire provided mutual aid at the scene, and while firefighters were able to knock down the flames in about half an hour, the trailer was a total loss.

Firefighter Ministry provided the family of four with motel stays and vouchers for clothing and food, and Carissa Schank says while members of their extended family are working to help get them back on their feet, the Lyman family may need more assistance.
