A local week-long relief drive to gather donations for victims of last Friday’s devastating tornado outbreak in eastern Nebraska is underway.

The Aulick Truck Shop at 709 S. Beltline Highway West in Scottsbluff will be the drop off site for non-perishable food items.

Accepted will be canned goods, prepackaged dry foods like beans, rice and pasta, and other ready-to-eat foods in individual packaging such as snack bars and crackers.

Authorities say hundreds of homes and other structures were damaged or destroyed last week, with the communities of Elkhorn and Bennington among the hardest hit.

Governor Jim Pillen Sunday issued a disaster declaration for Douglas, Washington, and Lancaster counties, allowing access to the Governor’s Emergency Fund for address conditions caused by the storms.

Food drive donations will be accepted daily from 8am to 5pm through Friday.
