As widely anticipated by many political observers, Governor Pete Ricketts has announced he will apply for the Nebraska U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Ben Sasse early next year.
The announcement follows Governor-elect Jim Pillen’s Monday announcement that applications to fill the seat must be submitted to the Office of the Governor-elect by Dec. 23. Applicants are requested to submit materials either online at www.nebraska.gov/appointments or by mail to the Nebraska State Capitol Room 1315, 1445 K St, Lincoln, NE 68508.
In his announcement, Ricketts said the decision was the result of many hours of prayer and family discussions, and came down to the single question of how he could serve the people of Nebraska and advance conservative values.
“Over the last eight years, we’ve shown the world the real impact conservative leadership can have,” Ricketts said. “I want to continue delivering results for our state, fighting to reduce taxes, grow our economy, defend our liberties, and run government more like a business. I’ll never stop working to get the job done, and that’s why I’m asking for Governor-elect Pillen’s consideration.”
Sasse’s resignation to take over as President of the University of Florida is effective Jan. 8, 2023, and Pillen says the application process will ensure Nebraska’s congressional delegation is returned to full strength as quickly as possible.
