A Gering man has died following injuries sustained Wednesday morning in a vehicle vs. bicycle crash on Highway 26 east of Scottsbluff.

At approximately 6:40 am, the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the crash between mile markers 26 and 27. NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas says the bicycle rider, identified as 76-year-old Merlin Anderson of Gering, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Zachariah Bollig of Scottsbluff, remained on scene and was cited for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.

Thomas says both Anderson and Bollig were travelling eastbound on Highway 26 at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
