NEBRASKA: For the week ending October 13, 2024, there were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 38% very short, 48% short, 14% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 33% very short, 46% short, 21% adequate, and 0% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 21% fair, 48% good, and
19% excellent. Corn mature was 94%, near 97% last year and 93% for the five-year average.
Harvested was 45%, near 41% last year, and ahead of 35% average.
Soybeans harvested was 70%, ahead of 65% last year and 62% average.
Winter wheat planted was 96%, near 95% last year and 92% average. Emerged was 69%, behind
79% last year, but near 68% average.
Sorghum condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 15% fair, 50% good, and 29% excellent.
Sorghum mature was 94%, near 91% last year, and ahead of 88% average. Harvested was 38%,
ahead of 30% both last year and average.
Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 96%, near 99% both last year and average. Harvested was
81%, ahead of 76% last year, but near 83% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 23% very poor, 21% poor, 29%
fair, 25% good, and 2% excellent.

KANSAS: For the week ending October 13, 2024, there were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 31% very short, 44% short, 25% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 28% very short, 46% short, 26% adequate, and 0% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 68%, near 66% for both last year and the five year average. Emerged was 36%, near 35% last year and 38% average.
Corn harvested was 77%, ahead of 70% last year and 64% average.
Soybean condition rated 7% very poor, 14% poor, 32% fair, 42% good, and 5% excellent.
Soybeans dropping leaves was 93%, equal to last year, and ahead of 88% average. Harvested
was 53%, near 52% last year, and ahead of 37% average.
Sorghum condition rated 10% very poor, 15% poor, 35% fair, 36% good, and 4% excellent.
Sorghum mature was 87%, near 83% last year, and ahead of 82% average. Harvested was 39%,
near 36% last year, and ahead of 32% average.
Cotton condition rated 6% very poor, 15% poor, 33% fair, 40% good, and 6% excellent. Cotton
bolls opening was 90%, behind 95% last year, but near 86% average. Harvested was 23%, ahead
of 15% last year and 8% average.
Sunflowers harvested was 40%, behind 52% last year, but ahead of 30% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 13% very poor, 30% poor, 38%
fair, 18% good, and 1% excellent.
