The summer baseball season will officially hit high gear tonight as the Western Nebraska Pioneers open their season at home.

The Pioneers are now officially a member of the Rocky Mountain League and they’ll open their season tonight at Oregon Trail Park Stadium against the Denver Cougars with first pitch at 6:35 pm. We’ll have coverage with Pioneers Broadcaster Jeffrey Nelson on KNEB AM 960/100.3 FM starting with the pregame show at 6:20 pm.

It’s a season opening five game homestand that runs through Saturday. After three with the Cougars the Fort Collins Foxes will be in for games on Friday and Saturday. These first five games all have 6:35 pm start times.

Legion Update

GERING

We’ll also have legion baseball tonight with Gering on the road at Chadron.

B&C Steel will play at 5 pm and then we’ll have coverage of the PVC seniors taking on Chadron on KMOR 93.3 FM and KMORfm.com starting anywhere from around 6:45 to 7 pm (possibly even a little later) with Jeff Kelley.

The Gering seniors are off to a 7-0 start to the season after winning all four of their games over the weekend at home in the PVC Tournament.

WESTCO

The WESTCO Zephyrs are in between a pair of road trips for tournaments to begin the week. This past weekend they played five games in four days in Gillette WY, going 2-3 on the trip. Coming up later this week they’ll be on the road for another tournament in Rapid City starting on Thursday.

The Express juniors went 1-1 over the weekend with a win over Lexington and a loss to McCook.
