Linda was born May 4, 1945, in Chadron, NE to Gerald and Liddie Varvel.  Linda’s family resided in Banner County on the Mead Ranch for several years, then later moved to Gering where Linda attended high school and graduated in 1963.  Linda married Jerry Hiegel on September 5th, 1965, in the Gering Methodist Church.  They first resided in the farming community of Sunflower, then they moved to Mitchell where they spent most of their years.  Upon retirement, they moved to Scottsbluff.  They had one daughter, Shelly.

Linda loved living on the ranch when she was younger and talked fondly of her horses.  She also loved animals, especially dogs.  She and Jerry had rescued a few dogs over the years from the Humane Society that they loved dearly.  Linda worked several jobs over the years, but she mostly enjoyed retail, working at several jewelry stores in the community, and working in accounting offices.  Her hobbies included participating in the Ham Radio Club, assisting with the Amateur Radio Emergency Services on occasions, and genealogy.  She enjoyed researching the history of her and her husband’s family and created beautiful family heritage keepsakes for her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Hiegel; her daughter, Shelly (Todd) Bolzer of Loretto, MN; two grandchildren, Harrison and Brett Bolzer of Loretto, MN; sister-in-law, Barbara Lattin of Scottsbluff; brother-in-law, Steve (Judi) Hiegel of Gering; and several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Liddie Varvel; her sister, Marlene Varvel; her parents-in-law, Jake and Freda Hiegel, and her brother-in-law, Gary Lattin.
