Here’s some catch up from the weekend with some high school sports events and what went down in softball, cross country, boys tennis, and some volleyball.

Cross Country

The Chadron girls and Scottsbluff boys won the titles Saturday at Alliance. The top five in the girls race were Makinley Fuller of Chadron followed by Shailee Patton (Gering), Axi Benish (Leyton), Jadyn Scott (Gering), and Kaylee Charbonneau (Scottsbluff).

On the boys side the top finisher was Hans Bastron from Scottsbluff followed up by his teammate James Adams in second place. Third went to Nate Seiler (Gering) then Eli Marez (Gering), and Nathan Hovet (Scottsbluff) rounding out the top five.

Gering’s Madi Seiler also returned to action on Saturday as she works her way back into form after suffering a summer foot injury.

Softball

Scottsbluff and Gering were both on the road in different locations on Saturday for Invite action. Scottsbluff finished runner-up to Northwest at the GINW Invite. The Cats finished with a 2-1 record on the day. They earned wins over NEN and Southern Valley/Alma before falling in the championship game to Northwest by the final of 14-9.

Scottsbluff will play at home against Alliance and Tuesday and we’ll have coverage on KNEB.tv, 106.9 The Trail, and KHYYfm.com starting at approximately 5:45.

For Gering it was a 1-2 trip to the North Platte Tournament. The Bulldogs started with a close win over Chadron 15-14 before dropping games to Kearney Catholic and Ralston.

Gering will travel to play at Chadron on Tuesday and we’ll have that one on KMOR 93.3 FM and KMORfm.com starting at around 5:45 for pregame and first pitch is slated for 6 pm.

Boys tennis

Scottsbluff hosted a triangular on Saturday with Gering and Alliance participating.

  • Alliance def. Scottsbluff 5-4
  • Scottsbluff def. Gering 9-3
  • Alliance def. Gering 7-5

Volleyball

Alliance won the McCook Tournament finishing with a 3-0 record and a championship win over Southwest 25-22, 25-16.

Gering finished 6th on the day winning only one of their three matches. They opened with a loss to Southwest before beating Valentine. Then in the 5th place match they lost to Chase County 25-14, 25-17.
