Earlier this summer, a powerful storm caused lots of damage to trees at Scottsbluff’s Fairview Cemetery.
This week, members from the Scottsbluff/ Gering Rotary Club helped the Parks and Recreation Department with replanting of some of the trees.
Director Matt Carpenter says thanks to the Nebraska Forest Service and Nebraska Statewide Arboretum’s “Ten Free Trees program” they were able to get six trees for the cemetery tree replacement project.
Carpenter says since 2016, Fairview Cemetery has lost around 50 trees from multiple storms, and the trees that sustained major damage and needed to be removed. This project is an effort to rebuild the tree canopy lost in these storms.
