A rural Scottsbluff pair have been charged with four felonies each for allegedly exploiting a vulnerable elderly woman by forging names on two real estate documents with her name and trying to sell the associated property.
49-year-old Barry Neal and 45-year-old Londa Neal, are each charged with two counts of Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult, 2nd Degree Forgery over $5,000 and Attempted Theft by Taking with Value over $5,000.
Court documents allege the name and signature of the victim were forged onto a 2021 quitclaim deed with Barry Neal that would transfer their joint interest in a property on Page Drive to Londa Neal.
Investigators say further digging into the past of the property uncovered a mostly typed 2017 quitclaim deed transferring the same property to the victim as a single person, but with the defendant’s names hand-written onto the document.
A related real estate transfer statement named all three, but again with the suspects’ names hand-written, and with only the victim’s signature.
Both Barry and Londa Neal were scheduled to make an initial appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court Friday morning.
