After a 2-1 win on Saturday night at Oregon Trail Park Stadium over the Denver Cougars it was the Western Nebraska Pioneers with a much more comfortable win to earn the sweep as they beat the Cougars 11-2 on Sunday.

Alejandro Castillo went five innings to earn the win, he allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking five.

Former Zephyr and current Cougar Cameron Meyer made his debut for the Pioneers and pitched a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout. Meyer allowed just one hit. He was one of three relievers that combined to toss four scoreless innings.

Offensively the Pios scored in all but two innings and they were led at the plate by Kieran Gaffney in the leadoff spot with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored while Bryce Peterson had two hits, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored.

E.J. Barnes and Francisco Laya also had two-hit games.

The Pioneers are now 18-15 on the season and after an off day today they’ll host non-league games against the Cage Rat Collegiates on Tuesday and Wednesday.
