The Monument Marathon is this weekend, and race organizers are pleased to announce that more and more elite runners are entering the field.
For this year’s race, at least 32 states will be represented, as well as runners from Kenya, Canada, Morocco, and The Netherlands.
WNCC Foundation’s Jennifer Reisig says the international draw of the Monument Marathon has grown since last year.
“We started the elite runners last year with Platte Valley Companies increase in their title sponsorship for our 10th year, that allowed us to increase our prize purse. So that made the Monument Marathon more attractive to some of those international runners, and we’ve certainly seen that to continue and expand this year, and we hope that just continues to happen into the future.”
This year’s top male and female marathon runners will win $1,500, plus an additional $500 if they set a new course record.
