A few more details have emerged following the January 4th firing of Mitchell Police Chief Kevin Krzyzanowski .

This week, Mayor Paul Murrell filed paperwork with the Nebraska Crime Commission indicating that Krzyzanowski’s termination was due to him being, “Unable to Meet Agency Standards.”

The firing came just one month after Murrell and the newly elected council unanimously confirmed Krzyzanowski to the post.

Sources have told KNEB the final dispute was a spat over officer scheduling, and the immediate termination.

Additionally, the City of Mitchell was required to notify the Crime Commission within seven days about the termination, but failed to do so until 21 days later. The City could have been fined $100 a day for the 14 days past the deadline, but The Police Standards Advisory Council is not currently imposing sanctions; and they’ve told KNEB News that they will be sending educational letters to the city.
