It was all Alliance on Wednesday night as the Spartans spoiled the Gering PVC home opener at Oregon Trail Park with a 9-1 win in five innings.

Jakob Callihan and Kellen Muhr combined to throw five innings and strike out 11 hitters in the run-rule shortened game while their offense pounded out 12 hits and handed Gering newcomer Carter Reisig the loss.

Reisig, who got the start, allowed eight runs, five of which were earned, to go along with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. In relief Jackson Howard allowed five hits and one run.

There weren’t many bright spots on offense for Gering as they collected just three hits; Mason Gaudreault had a RBI single and Tristan Strauch was on base three times with a single and two walks.

Caeson Clarke, Tyzen Brown, and Eli Blanco all had multi-hit efforts for Alliance in the win.

Gering is hosting their Platte Valley Companies Tournament Friday through Sunday. They’ll play Wheatland tomorrow night, on Saturday they take on Buffalo WY, and close out on Sunday against Sheridan County (Gordon-Rushville).

In the Jr’s game last night it was Alliance blanking B&C Steel by the final of 9-0.

WESTCO action this weekend

Both the Express and Zephyrs are playing tonight at Ogallala and then this weekend the Zephyrs will host Bridgeport on Saturday in a pair of games starting at 1 pm and 3:30 pm. The Express will play games at Buckley (Chappel) on Friday and at Lexington on Sunday.

Our next legion baseball broadcast will come early next week when the WESTCO Zephyrs play at Gering PVC. That will be the backend of a Jr/Sr doubleheader at Oregon Trail Park.
